Heavy-duty slugs for heavy-duty lugs. Our 1/0 gauge color-coded solder slugs are the right choice when it comes to more demanding electrical loads. Designed for medium to heavy utility and work trucks, 1 ton or larger trucks, medium duty tow trucks and farm equipment, or any kind of large terminal closed end connectors such as our line of copper lugs. The correct choice when it comes to marine applications that require more current and protection from corrosion. The electrical efficiency over crimping gets better when you go up in wire size. When using solder slugs with larger wire, you get more efficiency at higher currents than with crimping, providing a much more bonded electrical connection with far greater protection against corrosion than standard crimping techniques. For a better understanding on the use of a solder pellet, watch the video below.
*Propane or butane torch
*a bottle of flux
*heat shrink tubing (we recomend our Heavy Duty)
*a vice or clamps.
How to use a solder slug / solder pellet:
*Strip cable so that the exposed copper reaches the battery terminal bottom
*Place the proper slug size into the battery terminal, and secure it with a vice
*Slide the heat shrink tube over the wire *Apply several drops of flux to the exposed copper of the cable
*Pre-heat solder to until it melts
*As soon as solder melts, slowly insert the cable while continuing apply heat
*Make sure conection is secure and shrink the tubing over the connection
